North Kohala is steeped in rich, ancient history! Down the road from our office is the birthplace of Kamehameha I and the National Historic Landmark Moʻokini Heiau.

One of the most popular attractions is the Pololū Valley Lookout, where visitors can take in the stunning views of the valley below. For those looking for a more active adventure, there are plenty of hiking trails to explore, including the Pololū Valley Trail or Ala Kahakai, along the Kohala Coast, which takes hikers through some of the most beautiful scenery on the island. And for those who want to experience Hawaiian culture, there are several options for learning about traditional foods, music, and dance. No matter what your interests are, Kohala has something to offer everyone.
Kohala is located on the Big Island of Hawai’i. The island is one county, Hawai’i county. The county covers an area of 5,086 square miles and has a population of just over 200,000 people.
Hawaiʻi is the youngest and largest island in the Hawaiian chain. Nearly twice as big as all of the other Hawaiian Islands combined (hence, its nickname, “Big Island”), its sheer size is awe-inspiring. You can travel through all but four of the world’s different climate zones here, ranging from Wet Tropical to Polar Tundra, resulting from the shielding effect and elevations of the massive volcanoes Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
